Motor Expo 2016 - PART 1

This year's Motor Expo had some very juicy new bikes for us living in Thailand.

First off, the introduction on the Thai market of a great motorcycle manufacturer. One that has now 95 years of history and has a special place in my heart: you guessed it....Moto Guzzi is finally here!
Unfortunately, the import taxes will seriously affect sales, since they will cost around one third more than their direct competitors.
Aprilia, being part of the Piaggio group like Moto Guzzi, are also officially present for the first time.

Another highlight for me, was the Triumph stand, which had all new bikes on show, includingthe new T100, the Street Scrambler, the Street Cup and the much talked about Bobber. The bikes all look great in my opinion, very well executed with much attention to detail. I particularly liked the black and grey metal flake tank on the Street Cup, which will most likely find its way on my future Street Twin.

A very nice custom Speed Triple. The transformation kit will probably be sold in the coming year, price not yet available.

Gone is the trademark double headlight to make space for a nice classic looking single round headlight. Thanks God, I would add.

Not so sure about this little liquid cooling contraption...

The Street Scrambler looks particularly good in my opinion

MotoTrio joins the Omega Family

I'm very pleased to announce that another great Thai manufacturer has joined the Omega family.

MotoTrio has a stunning lineup of custom parts for all Triumph Modern Classics, including fiberglass fenders, fender eliminator kits, side covers, oil cooler guards and many many more.
MotoTrio is the brainchild of 3 brothers (Em, Om and Arm)

I'm in the process of reorganizing the shop, both online and in real life, and I will add many new parts throughout the next couple of months.

The best way not to get old...

....is riding a bike.

Especially if that bike reminds you of the one you had when you were a young lad of 16 years, feeling invincible and full of energy.

That's what I did and I can only recommend it to all of you. Buy back the bikes of your youth (if you can)!!

Sunmaster14 on paper around the world

I'm buzzing right now.
This morning Mr postman delivered 2 magazines for me: the French RAD and the Italian Special Cafe.
The reason I'm so happy about this delivery is that they both contain an article about my Sunmaster14!

2 more to come, a South African and a Japanese magazine are next. :-))))

We live in exciting times

We definitely live in exciting times. Pessimists will tell you the global situation is but a glimpse of the imminent Armageddon, but I've always been an optimist. For me the tank is always half full.

If you, like me, have been living in Thailand for the past 10 years, then you know that there has never been such a variety of easily accessible bikes on the market right now. There is literally something for every taste and wallet. Like I said, EXCITING!

Today's post is not about the marketplace, though. It is about a very specific bike, namely MY NEXT BIKE! YESSSSS

My current bike is a 2009 Kawasaki ER6n I bought 2 years ago. Read the story here.
At that time it was the best value for money and it was indeed a great bike, reliable and fun. I like it a lot, but that's exactly it....I like it, but I don't love it. I've always been attracted by classic bikes. In fact, all my bikes were made in the past millennium, except for the ER.
I could give you a list of rational explanations, but the short (and most significant) reason is simply that I've fallen in love, and my new love is called...
Street Twin!

Last week I went to the nearest Triumph dealer and tested all their bikes, but the ST was the bike I had in mind from the beginning. Turns out it was like I hoped it would be, and more.

Testing the bike's capability with a passenger. Thanks Colm for riding bitch!

Next step is selling the ER to make space for the ST.

By now you may wonder "How does he get away with buying another bike? Isn't he married?"
Well yes, I am indeed, but like every good (married) bike collector, over time I have refined my arsenal of tactics to break down the inevitable resistance.

If you're a newbie in collecting bikes, you might want to check out this helpful video :-)

And with that, I salute you and wish you pleasant rides, wherever you are.

Just have a look at some of the feedback we had:

It's slightly softer and more comfortable than the original and gives a lovely custom look. Quality is outstanding and I know it'll last a long time. Markus from Omega Racer speaks good English and always replies promptly. Would recommend. (Dave)
Thought I'd show you some pics of the Triumph seat I ordered through you...thanks so much. It is really well made and has fantastic detailing. The spray and cloth were a nice touch as well. All in all, absolutely chuffed! (James)
